The first nursing apprenticeships will be offered starting in September 2017. Below are some examples of learning relevant to the NHS. Currently, nursing education has been developed to place existing Health Care Support Workers (HSWs) and Assistant Practitioners in nursing roles. Intermediate-level trainees complete on-the-job learning up to Level 2 – equivalent to 5 GCSEs in grades 9 and 4 (A*-C). These courses provide the skills you need for your chosen career and allow you to embark on advanced training. Most nursing training lasts 4 years. It may take longer if the intern takes time off for a legal reason. If the trainee already has previous knowledge and experience accepted by the accredited educational institution as part of the Prior Learning Accreditation (APEL), it may take less than 4 years.
