I am thrilled to share my summer 2022 internship with Mary Kay. From the first day of the internship, Mary Kay`s HR team was on guard to make us feel welcome and special, followed by a warm welcome from the forecasting and analysis department. As it draws to a close, it`s hard to believe how quickly the past 10 weeks have passed. Mary Kay is a direct selling cosmetics brand whose mission is to enrich the lives of women and their families around the world. I take with me a lot of fun memories, values and a great work experience that will always push me to „do something beautiful” in life. In addition, every two weeks, the HR team hosted a series of „lunch and learns” for interns on topics such as professionalism in the workplace, corporate social responsibility, Clifton`s strengths, resume review and HR 101, which were extremely helpful. They also planned many fun activities like making a deli box, a day of internship at the North Texas Food Bank that helped us connect and make new friends. As a data science intern, I had the opportunity to apply my key technical skills in the classroom to solve a real-world business problem. My project was based on the effect of „cannibalization” on the sale of existing products when launching a new product. This involved creating and applying various models to identify the problem of cannibalization, such as time series using the „tsoutliers” package in R, the neural network model, and the regression tree, and further visualizing the results in Tableau. Working on this project challenged and motivated me to dive deeper into these magical tools of data science. In addition to my role, I also had the opportunity to present my ideas on „How to curb unauthorized sales” to the legal department as part of the internship competition.
