Maria Polemitis is Head of Legal UKMEA I and Head of Legal Operations at Robert Walters Plc, an international professional recruitment firm. Polemitis is a licensed South African lawyer who began her career in litigation and then moved in-house in the financial services industry. She has spent most of her legal career in the UK and is currently responsible for Robert Walters` legal activities in the UK, Ireland, the Middle East and Africa and is responsible for in-house legal operations within the RW Group. Nisha trained at Holman Fenwick Willan LLP in London before joining recruitment in 2013. Nisha has recruited in trade and industry as well as in the domestic field, from NQ level to general counsel. In March 2017, Nisha joined Robert Walters` permanent legal department, as she now leads the team as a senior consultant. Nisha specialises in recruiting private practice in the West and East Midlands, from paralegals to partners, and also recruits in-house. Brian Nason as Principal London Brian is an Irish lawyer with a law degree from the National University of Ireland in Cork (UCC), where he finished 1st in his class. Brian graduated as a lawyer with Maples and Calder and worked in the Dublin and Hong Kong offices before embarking on his career in legal recruitment. Brian spent two years at another international executive search firm before joining Robert Walters. It focuses on recruiting lawyers for permanent positions in London`s banking and financial services sector, including banks, fund and asset managers, insurance companies and other FCA-regulated firms. He works with banks and financial services organizations on legal hiring at all levels, from junior lawyer roles to general counsel and head of legal positions.

He has over a decade of industry experience, having previously worked at another international recruitment company after graduating from Newcastle University. He has also worked as an analyst for the Latin American division of a global market research organization and is fluent in Spanish. Robert Walter`s in-house legal team focuses on tailored recruitment solutions on a temporary and permanent basis. We recruit paralegals to general counsel. On a few occasions, my clients have said that I really understand the type of candidates they are looking for, and I would attribute this to my industry knowledge and background. As a former lawyer, I am able to speak the same language as my clients and candidates, which allows me to better identify with them. My experience abroad has also been very beneficial as it has allowed me to develop a wider awareness of different work cultures. This makes it easier for me to identify the right matches between employer and candidate and shorten the recruitment process for our clients. Lindy is now Director of our Legal and Corporate Secretariat and talks about her career change, her work in recruitment and opportunities in Malaysia. Aleisha is an Australian-trained lawyer who now leads Robert Walters` in-house recruitment team in London. Aleisha studied a double Bachelor of Laws and Arts at one of Australia`s top 10 universities, during which time she completed an international minor in Sweden and has since studied an LLM in Sydney and an MSc in London. Aleisha practiced in Sydney for 3 years before moving to London, and throughout her legal career she has helped owners of multinational technology, sports and retail brands obtain their intellectual property rights. She is now using this previous industry experience to specialize in placing commercial, corporate, technology and intellectual property lawyers with clients specializing in technology, sports and gaming. Since my arrival in 2012, I have been promoted three times to head of the legal and corporate secretariat. In addition to the promotion to the position of manager, I had the opportunity to further expand the legal and general secretariat field, and I now have two direct reports under me. Below, Polemitis chats with Global Leaders in Law about the importance of empathy and compassion in business, strategies to ensure diverse voices are included in the business narrative, and practical steps to inspire change in the legal industry. As well as working with UK candidates, Jon has also a proven track record of successfully assisting lawyers moving to London from jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. During the conversation, I was asked if I would consider joining Robert Walters to do pioneering work in the legal department. The idea of creating a specialized legal recruitment department piqued my interest as I was looking for more autonomy in my career and was looking for a change, even though I had some doubts due to my lack of recruitment experience. However, during a tour of the Kuala Lumpur office, I got a glimpse of Robert Walters` vibrant and vibrant culture and immediately knew this would be the right place for me. Richard graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in Sociology and later attended the College of Law in Guildford. After graduating as a lawyer in 2000, he spent the first part of his career as a technology lawyer at a leading London law firm, Bird & Bird. Richard then moved internally and worked for the communications company Tiscali for several years.
