We offer an excellent education in established and emerging areas of law, and our LL.M. students are taught by distinguished professors who are also leading academics. Berkeley Law`s program gives students the opportunity to study a subject in a sustainable manner and at a more advanced level than is typically possible in general law courses. Employers in all industries and geographic markets know that Berkeley`s law degree means you`ve met strict standards, learned from the best lawyers, and gained the real-world skills and experience that will get you started right away. Our on-campus recruitment programs are among the largest. After graduation, 60-65% typically go to the largest and most reputable law firms across the country (more choose to start in companies a year or two after graduation after completing their legal internship). A significant percentage of our class – about 20% in a typical year – choose instead to serve the public by starting public interests or government careers. Another large cohort – 15-20% – begins their careers in sought-after legal clerkship positions. Each year, our graduates receive highly regarded graduate scholarships, including those offered by the Skadden Foundation and Equal Justice Works. Many deserve competitive spots in federal and state honor programs.
We typically send our graduates to more than 30 states and abroad. The largest number of our graduates stay in California, followed by those who go to New York and Washington, D.C. The interdisciplinary Jurisprudence and Social Policy (JSP) programme leads to master`s and doctoral degrees. The school is a member of the AALS and is approved by the ABA. In national government and politics, the law school has produced many influential figures from both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Several U.S. governors and senators, including Earl Warren and Pete Wilson of California and Neil Goldschmidt of Oregon, are Berkeley Law graduates. The law school also graduated from a significant number of public servants who served at the U.S. Cabinet level. Included are U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk, who served in the Kennedy administration and the Johnson administration, U.S. Treasury Secretary and Federal Reserve Chairman G. William Miller, who served in the Carter administration, and U.S.
Attorney General Edwin Meese III, who served in the Reagan administration. Beyond these individuals, many Berkeley graduates have had the opportunity to work in the U.S. federal government in a variety of prominent roles, including U.S. Deputy Attorney General, U.S. Attorney General, Assistant Secretary of State, U.S. Ambassador, U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Chief Technology Officer, Under Secretary of State to the Cabinet, President of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and members of the United States Congress. We strongly recommend that applicants register for the LLM Credential Assembly Service well in advance of the application deadline. LSAC recommends that applicants register at least four to six weeks before the deadline for their first application. It is recommended to send the materials as soon as possible in order to have enough time for processing. In 2018, the school`s cash-in-transit rate was 90.9%. [28] Until 2009, Berkeley Law was desperately short of space because faculty had grown by about 25% over the past four years.
